I have a PC P4 2.4ghz with ECS L4S8A2 board and 256mb ddr333 mem. The problem is when i installed win98se it was too slow to boot, i tried upgrading my bios and again nothing happened. How can i correct this problem, what seems to be wrong?

thanks for your reply, no not yet budman can you help me with the DMA thing thanks

Go into your system properties.

Click the Device Manager tab, locate the IDE Controllers list, and click the properties for the primary controller.

Make sure the transfer mode has the "DMA If available" selection selected on every channel 🙂

In win98 if I remember it's under the HD's properties themselves you enable DMA,only in Win2k/xp you have to go into the ide controllers.

Do you have a floppy hooked up? Try moving the boot order around. Where does it slow down at? At the windows load screen on the loading OS screen from BIOS after POST?

I ask about the floppy because a bad floppy. Caused my computer to freak out since it was 1st on my boot order and would search for a min or two for a floppy drive while it was dead... Took forever to boot!

it slows down at the win98 load screen for about 2min. and after booting when you move the mouse it will hang for about 5sec. then it wont hang anymore
