Hardware problem? PC freezes

PC= Gateway AMD 1GHZ

Problem= PC started freezing up while starting. Thought it was bad hard drive. Bought new HD and could not install Win2K on it. Evenfully had to unplugg floppy to get it to install. Then on start up, it started freezing again (same problem with old hard drive). I can get OS to work but have to unplug CD.DVD. floppy, & NIC to run without freezing up?

I have updated BIOS, swapped around memory...any suggestions? Possible bad motherboard?

wow, this is exaclty what's happeneing to my friend's PC. We are 99% sure he got a bad mobo... you just have to test all parts until you find the problem. Sounds liek mobo though.

thanks Piston!

The one thing that is bugging me about this whole problem is that I am able to install Win2K on both drives (separately)? how come the problem doesn't exist while running setup?

It could also be a weak or dying PSU causing your problems, since you have to unplug so many devices to get it to work, but could also be the motherboard.
