I am going to guess........

-Intel retakes the Performance Lead with Northwood and whatever else they come out with.
-More people move away from VIA chipsets - especially P4 users.
-We will see the first 256 MB Consumer Video Card
-USB 2.0 is here to stay

Others ?

what's so exciting about hammer? it's not like there's any 64bit software anywhere.

I predict that AMD's market share will grow along with VIA's. Also I do not believe that Northwood will give Intel the performance lead and even if it does, it'll always be outdone by cost.

(1) More GPRs.
(2) It runs existing 32 bit apps with no performance hit.
(3) SSE2.

(1) What's "GPR's"?
(2) So do the current Athlons

What am I missing here?

Dissaperance of the floppy drive and far great prenetration of LCD users.

I also think we will see great interest in 133fsb (533 i know) Northwoods. I also think computer prices are going to go up. At least in the i H1 02. Finally I think serial ata is going to be huge. Usb 2.0 well be far more comon and wel will see cheaper gigabit ethernet equipment. (highend computers will start comming with gigabit ethernet cards) All this (serial ata lcd's etc) will be expensive as well as the upward moving ram prices(which i believe will continure) will lead to some steep discounts in H2 2002 as inventory piles up. Also amd and intel will again challange each other on teh price front around this time.

That's what's great about the Hammer. It allows for the adoption of 64-bit computing, but it will run 32-bit apps faster than any other X86 processor ever. With exceptional branch prediction, integrated memory controller, dual CPU cores, larger cache, and 800Mhz FSB sporting 6.8GB/s bandwidth, it will lay down some serious smack. If AMD can get it to market as they're predicting.

Some predictions for 2002:

-Intel will regain the performance lead with Northwood until Barton arrives.
-AMD will make further gains in the server and laptop arenas.
-AGP cards will sport 128MB of DDR by the 2nd quarter of 02'.
-Transmeta will be on its last legs.
-SiS will post another loss but will be on stronger legs.
-AMD will add cache and a heatspreader by the end of 02' as Hammer starts to make its debut.
-Hypertransport will be adopted by most motherboard makers.

-Transmeta will go the way of the Dodo
-Bitboys will prove once again that they're the kings of vapourware
-VIA's market share will grow
-Northwood will surpass the Palomino but will be overtaken by either Thoroughbred or Barton
-Hammer will destroy all (maybe not Itanium in 64-bit)
-USB 2.0 will become standard
-I'd like to see hard drives exceed 66MB/s
-Nvidia's GF4 will cost more than the Voodoo5 6000 was supposed to
-motherboards with firewire?

-Intel's Northwood will take the performance crown from AMD until AMD releases their next chip (.13mu).
-ATi will continue to dominate the laptop market with Radeon 7500 Mobility and newer products.
-RAMBUS will slowly disappear and DDR RAM will continue to increase in price until 2H 2002.
-It will be the year of FireWire.
-Apple will release their G5 CPU, letting the world know they are still in the game.
-Microsoft's WinXP sales will continue to be lack-luster, especially in the Corporate Market.
-Recordable DVD drives will become more mainstream by 3Q 2002.
-Anandtech will become the world's #1 online source for hardware information.
