The Art of System Administration

Do you know the difference between an Athlon 64 and Opteron? How about performance characteristics between Raid 5 and Raid 10? How much of a speed increase can you expect from memory with 222 timings? What's the impact of ECC to memory performance?

We're looking for the kind of person that feels compelled to squeeze every ounce of computing power out of every machine. If the thought of working on high-performance servers near Penn Station with cutting edge technology, building super-secure, reliable, distributed systems makes you work up a sweat, we've got a job for you.

We want problem-solvers that know how to solve the toughest, most confusing hardware and software problems.

Helpful to know:
raid systems
optimizing and securing windows
overclocking
disk imaging technologies
installing linux and windows server applications

Send a cover letter describing your thought process in how you would solve a problem where your machine was hanging intermittently. Please respond to careers@athenaarchiver.com if interested and put hardware position in subject line

For real or not? Hmmm. I dunno.

Opteron is uses registered memory and has 1MB L2 cache. Raid5 relies on XOR calculations so in generally RAID10 offeres more performance, but is more expensive per GB. 222 timings vs what? ECC takes an additional cycle to compute.

From their homepage:

AthenaArchiver is a comprehensive electronic communications archiving system. It represents the convergence of compliance and knowledge management applications.

The AthenaArchiver platform delivers nearly real-time, total compliance with the vast majority of electronic records retention laws. It minimizes the potential for fines, critical downtime, and lost or damaged data, while simultaneously reducing administrative costs and raising the overall productivity of any email system.

Help meet regulatory compliance with Sarbanes Oxley security and data management with Athena Archiver. Fully compatible with any mail server including Exchange 2000/2003, postfix, sendmail and many others.

Looks like backup/data mining services. Not sure if it's something you buy and put onsite, or they're offering remote data storage services (or both). Probably not spammers; they tend to hide better than this. :p

I guess if you don't mind a bunch of 13 year olds flooding you with overly embelished applications...

Because lying on your resume gets you jobs you can keep... I'd really like to see a youngster move to Manhattan. This is the perfect place to find qualified personnel.

I think everyone on this board would want this job. Too bad there is no way I could move right now. Just bought a house and some other things in my life would make it impossible.

When/if you ever need someone, or know someone who needs someone, in Denver - please give a shout. :D
