Hardware or Software Problem?

I just got my system set up:

AMD TBird 1.333GHz
Asus A7A266
Crucial 512Mb DDR PC2100 RAM
Maxtor 60Gb 7200rpm HD
Soundblaster Live!
Powercolor Geforce2 Pro 64Gb
Ethernet Card... etc.

I tried to install Win2K on this sucker, and it keeps giving me random error messages... once in a while it would be memory management, another time would be files not copying correctly.
So, I tried to install Win98 instead. It worked fine, but then it wouldn't recognize one of the hardwares (it just listed as unknown device, and I have no clue what that could be). When I booted it up again, it froze at that stage, and the system automatically reverted all the drivers, and restored the registry. So I decided to start from the beginning again... but when I start the setup again, it keeps telling me that the setup cab file is corrupt... any suggestions?? This is becoming a huge pita. Thanx

is this a box you just put together or one you've had running before? in my experience, faulty RAM is often the culprit for weird and/or random error messages. if you can get hold of some other RAM, try it & see what happens. i'd also check the BIOS settings & see if they're ok. you might also try pulling out your network card & try an install without it.

I just put this thing together... so the memory problem could have caused the file to seem corrupt?

I'll give it a try by changing to SDRAM from my old computer and see what happens... (only 128Mb 😛)
