Hardware or software problem?

Last week I switched processors from a X2 4400+ to an Opteron 170, hoping for a better overclock. I also switched heatsinks.
I've noticed a few weird quirks with my computer in the last week, and I'm wondering what could be the cause.
  • When playing Halo, the game isn't smooth like it used to be - always seems to be lagging.
  • Occasionly in windows, when moving the mouse, my pointer will hang for half a second or so - not very often.
  • When playing avi files, sometimes it will make a "buzz" sound and my audio will disappear. Rewinding a few seconds always fixes the problem.

Since I just made hardware changes, that's where I want to point the finger, but swapping out a CPU seems pretty minor, and usually CPUs usually work fine or don't post at all. Plus, I completed 40+ hours of dual Prime 95 on this chip while testing my overclock (currently back at stock settings). My main concern is perhaps I damaged my motherboard or something while working in the case.
Or Windows could just be messed up.

I'm switching back to a X2 chip next week, so then I'll get a chance to narrow the problem down. Until then, anyone have an idea?
