I'm having a strange issue with my video card. Card is a Chaintech Geforce 4 ti 4200. It's about a year and a half old.
For about the past 8 months it has been creating a problem where the screen will turn all white with tiny yellow squares. When this happens the entire machine is locked and the only way to correct the issue is to do a hard reset.
It has had this problem on 3 different systems (2 running 2000 and 1 running XP), using several different nvidia driver versions. The problem occurs very randomly. There isn't one specific thing you can do to create the issue (does seem to occur the most while playing games).
I think I know the answer and it's a dumb question but ... is the card dying on me or could it be a windows/driver issue?
Secondly - if I'm going to replace it, would a Radeon 9600 Pro or 9600XT be a suitable replacement (need to stay around $100 or less). System it's for is:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
Gigabyte MB with 8X AGP
512MB PC2100
40GB HDD
