Hey, I'm looking at buying a handgun to go to the range and shoot. I've been looking around and I've narrowed it down to 3 contenders. Sig Sauer P226/220 in either 9mm or .45ACP, the H&K USP in 9mm or .45ACP and the Berreta 92 series in 9mm. I live in Canada so I don't know about the clip size restrictions. I know that all these 9mm's can have 15 round clips for law enforcement but are restricted to 10 for civilians. If the restriction apply to the clips getting any of these guns will result in a 10 round clip for both 9mm's and .45ACP's. I've read that all 3 of these are very reliable guns. I've heard and read that 9mm are more prone to jamming, any info on this would be helpful. I'm looking for good experienced info on these guns. Thanks.

Go with the .45.
More kickback on that beast gives more satisfaction.
9mm's are like little cap guns. Your not running around the ghetto are you?
:D

All very nice pistols you've got picked out there. I've got a Sig P226 .40, it's a really nice piece. As far as 9mm, I've heard the same thing about jamming and have actually experienced it. I was using a Glock 17 a few weeks ago and had a terrible time with jams. It could have just been the condition of the weapon (it didn't look very well taken care of) but it soured me on both Glocks and 9mm.

If this is your first gun, H&K is pretty expensive to start out with. Sigs aren't cheap either. The Beretta will be the least expensive of your picks. If money is no object, look for a USP Tactical. If I had the cash that'd be my next handgun. :)

I have had great luck with my H&K USP .45ACP, my favorite at the moment is actually a Beretta Cougar .45ACP. I personally prefer .45 just because I dont entirely trust a 9mm to knock them down hard enough.

Didn't here about the school shooting, I'm Canadian so the US news doesn't usuall filter up her till 6 o'clock news time. Up here in Canada we have pretty severe gun laws. Just a normal guy who wants to go pop off a few at the range once and a while. Thanks for the feedback on the guns, personally I wanted to get the H&K or the Sig more, but Sigs are damn expensive.

At least you arent in here asking about junk like Glocks. I am glad you are making an educated choice here. But seriously check into that Cougar, I am telling you it is on par with the H&K and handles alot better during double taps.

The only one of those i know anything about is the berreta. I like it alot, i found it was very accurate and have never had a problem with jamming, although it hasn't been shot very much.

Sammy: about $500 with burlwood grips and special metal carrying case, it is a bargain, just kind of hard to find..not many people know about them.

H&K USP tactical is the replacement for the Socom isn't it? I understand it is quite pricey. The H&K's have nice rails under the barrel and slide to put laser sites. So it seems that everyone seems to like the .45ACP.

I read a Law Enforcement gun magasine yesterday at Chapters[Canadian Barnes & Noble] it had the Ohio State Highway Patrol's new handgun tests in it. The top 2 guns were both Sigs. Of each model tested there were 3 guns taken from regular store stock the combined 6 guns from the 2 sig models only jammed a total of 3 times. Each gun fired 30000 rounds.

I have a Berreta myself and had some jams when I first got it. (bought it used so that I could have the 15 shot clip) I just had them polish down the ramp a little and it's fine now.

The SOCOM is around 1800 bucks and is very very nice, the Tactical is around 800 US and also a great gun but both are big. I have a H&KC USP40 in stainless and love it, I've fired a sig 226/228 in 9mm more than 500 rounds and never had a jam, the 92f is a great gun that can use HiCap mags sig also if I'm not mistaken.

I would look to SIG and H&K but will always favor H&K over all. Here are a few links that I've found that could help you out.

Well I have a Colt .45ACP model 1911. Its a really nice one, out of the three you listed I have only shoot the Berreta and didn't really care for it. The Sig P226 looks nice and I am considering it for my next perchase.
