hardware identification?

well me n my mate jus got hold of a few old computers

the first looks like a really old server, its got some PCI slots, and then some massive brown coloured slots, i have no idea what they are. i assume the ram is SIMM ram, though again not sure...the chips on the memory sticks are small but bulky.

were not to concerened about that one though, the HSF on the CPU is tiny....the socket is bigger than it

the 2nd comp apparently is a celeron 501mhz with 64mb ram ( i assume this will be a PII celeron)

i dunno who makes the mobo, but its got an ATI Rage 3D chip on it, and a curious looking slot that holds memory which is very similar to the way SO-DIMM's are installed in laptops..

is this extra memory specifically for the RAGE chip or is it like a off-die L2/L3 cache for the celeron?

The add in ram slot is most likely for the ATI and not for the celeron. If you want to ID the mobo, there should be an FCC number on the mobo and you can reference this. Google for FCC and you should find a homepage wherein an FCC number is referenced to the manufacturer and what kind of component it was issued to.

Hi, The extra memory socket is probable for memory Cache. Many older boards went that way. Get the bios Maker's name and part no. off the bios chips and go to their site on the Web. Usually you can get information from them. They know who they sold that BIOS chip to.
Good Luck, Jim
