Ok, I built a new computer,
ECS K7S5A MB,
1.4ghz Athlon
WD 30gig HD,
Old Banshee Vid Card(waiting on my Geforce 3)
cd-rom, onboard sound etc..

Here's my problem. I put everything together it booted fine, went to reboot and the machine cut off during the reboot and now will no longer power on. I've tried 3 different PS's and nothing from either one.

My thinking is the MB somehow went bad, could it be something else or am I assuming correct? The chip dying wouldn't stop it from at least powering one would it?

Help me out please.

Thanks

depends. do the drives spin up? fans spin? if the hard drives do spin, and fans that connect to the mobo don't... then check that your ATX connector is in, and if not, then you might have a dead mobo. If the fans also spin, try a different video card and different ram. is the speaker connected? if no, connect it and report any beep codes. If changing all those doesn't help, try a diff cpu :(

check for a short. most of the elcheapo cases do not have real standoffs the tray is actually stamped with the all the locations of the variosu form factor holes and one of those could short out your stuff

Nothing spins up, no fans, drives etc..., I've checked the Atx connector, make sure it's plugged in flush still nothing. Must be MB then right? I want to rule out everything other than that before I RMA it.

It's an Antec case, is that a cheap one? I thought it was decent at least. I think I will reseat it and see what happens.

Check the power switch wires from the case to the MB, they may have fallen off or become loose, or the switch has failed. You could also plug the reset switch wire tempoarily to the power switch connector on the MB to test it.
You could also remove the ATX connector and jumper it to test the P.S. (leave the drives connected for a load)

I do not think you case is cheap, but I did not know what you had so I was making a general statement. IF the HDD are spinning up then the problem lies with the MB

disconnect everthing from MB except fan for the HS on the CPU

pull out the ram and reseat it
place vid card in

does the PC boot to the AMI screen?

What do you mean by jumper it?

I wasn't offended or anything, I was just asking a question in return because I though Antec's were good cases, and I wanted to know if I was mistaken. I've tried disconnecting everything on the MB but CPU and still no dice. I get no power at all to anything. It doesn't boot, no fans spin up, HD won't spin up nothing. If I plugged the HD in to the PS withoug plugging the ATX connector into the MB would the HD spin up?

I checked all the cables on all 3 PS's I tried. I'll try the reset switch thing though, I haven't tried that.

make sure all of your power cords are in correctly, not just the ones going into the mobo. i had a problem in which i couldn't boot up my comp because i misconnected my power supply to my floppy drive. it was only connected to 3 of the 4 pins, damned drugs screwing my brain. =)

sounds like a dead PSU with atx I am not sure it will power up beasue power on is a function on the MB ( the atx connector must be plugged into the MB along with the power lead from the switch)

I thought PSU too, but I've tried 3. All Brand new. They can't all be dead.
