hardware disk controller with cache

Anyone here with any suggestions on a hardware raid/disk controller with on-board cache? preferably with a dimm slot (so it can be expanded - ram so cheap nowadays) - you may also recommend one with just on board cache w/o a dimm slot, coz they're generally cheaper. cost is an issue though hope it won't be too expensive. would prefer a PCIe slot.

DO they make a lot of difference in hard disk performance?

Thanks for the suggestions. 🙂

Yes they can make a large difference, but generaly only worth it if you are doing some type of Raid, the cheap ones tend to perform worse than your onboard Sata w/ software raid, so your better off just skiping this unless your prepared to spend big bucks for minor gains. I'd suggest looking into Areca or 3ware cards, both companies make what your looking for, but sadly they are by no means cheap.
