Hi. Since my old computer is starting to age, i figured it's time to get it replaced. I will primarily be using it for music production (Cubase SX3 with lots of VSTi, recording etc.), but also as an all-round machine. I'm not that big of a gamer, though it'd be nice if the machine could stand up to most system demands. The primary focus though will be music production. Here's what i've come up with:

Case: Antec Case Performance One P180 SILVER without PSU

Power supply: Zalman ZM600-HP Modular Power supply 600W ATX2.2 Silent PSU

Motherboard: Asus P5W DH Deluxe i975X 4DDR2-DIMM 3PCI 4PCIe SATA Raid Audio DUAL GB-LAN WiFi-AP Solo Firewire Socket775 ATX

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.40GHz 4MB FSB1066 Boxed (with cpu-cooler!) Socket 775

CPU cooler: Zalman CNPS9700LED Giant Copper 110mm Ultra Quiet CPU Heatpipe Cooler

RAM: Corsair XMS2-6400 TWIN2X2048-6400C4 4-4-4-12 Xtreme 2x1024MB (tot. 2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz with Heatsink

Harddrive 1 (OS, programs etc.): Samsung HD080HJ 80GB 7200rpm 8MB SATA2

Harddrive 2 (music stuff): Seagate Barracuda ST3200820AS 7200.10 200GB 7200rpm 8MB SATA2

Video card: Asus Extreme GeForce 8500GT 256MB DDR2 TV-out HDTV DVI SLI-ready RETAIL PCI Express

Soundcard: M-Audio Audiophile 2496

What do you think?

Well I'm not sure how much space your music stuff takes up, but bigger hard drives are so cheap nowadays. I'd say just get two 400gb drives. One for everything, and the other to back it up!

Oh, i've got some external ones to take care of that, but i'll look into the pricing and think about maybe getting a bigger system disc.

I got two WD 320Gig, 16MB cache HDs for $159.98. HD space is very cheap!

How does the Soundcard: M-Audio Audiophile 2496 compare to the Auzentech X-Meridian? They're the same price, but beyond that, how do they compare?

If you software will work on vista 64 and if it is memory intensive you might want to consider going with 4gigs of ram (as it is now fairly inexpensive) also with 500gig hard drives now around $120 I think something bigger then a 200gig drive would be advisable (320/400...), though prices will continue to fall so if you don't need it (or already have the 2 drives listed) then just wait.
