Has anyone taken the free computer hardware and maintainence certification at expertrating.com? How does one prepare for it?

I would assume that you prepare for it by taking it. Since it's free, you should be able to take it as many times as you like 🙂. I never took the test.. Can you link directly to it? (click the word "http" right above the area where you type the message).
 
You could put it on a resume, but it won't hold much weight unless it's one of the major certs. Get a cert from Microsoft, Comptia, Cisco, Oracle, Red Hat, or Novell.
