Hardware Calibration

I want to calibrate by monitor, but i have no idea what colorimeter brands and models exists out there. A list of devices and prices would be very helpfull. I'm waiting for your suggestions.

How much are you willing to spend?

Prices start under $100 (Colorvision Spyder2Express) and go up from there. WAY up.

I started with a Spyder2Pro. These days I'm using an X-Rite DTP94 with ColorEyes Display Pro. $325 for the package from Integrated Color. Results are much better than the Spyder (particularly noticeable when color matching multiple displays).

Spyder2 series (more economical) or Eye One Display 2 or DTP-94 (more professional). CED is probably among the best too. I would avoid the Pantone Huey series. I don't think they're worth it at all. Also some of the cheap Kodak solutions aren't so bright.

Personally I don't think there is much difference between the Spyder 2 Pro, i1 Display 2, DTP-94, or ColorEyes. The Spyder2 might not be quite as good, but the last three should be virtually the same. The main factor when you have one of those three is simply how good you are at adapting to your LCD's settings/quirks. Actually some of those packages may come with different or better software. I use basICColor with my Eye One Display 2 because the Eye One Match software isn't nearly as good. But that's not the colorimeter's fault and you can get basICColor for a decent price. Eye One Match is free so you're not really paying for it in the package.

Would it be possible to buy Spyder2Express or preferably i1Display LT and still use the demo software from Intergrated Color 'ColorEyes Display Pro Demo (Mac 1.30 PC 1.28)'?
Is the hardware from Spyder2Express/Spyder2Suite/Spyder2PRO and i1DisplayLT/i1Display2 the same? What are the limitanios of the demo software?

Yes, you can use the Spyder sensor with CED. The sensor from all the Spyder series are functionally identical, but I believe the serial number is keyed (ie you can't use the sensor from a spyder2express with spyder2pro). CED isn't picky though. I'm not familiar with EyeOne sensors, so I really couldn't say how they compare.

The CED demo is limited to 10 runs.
