Well, I think you?ve done a lot for this forum in researching and posting this topic. It?s been one heck of a help to me. Using your advice, and the links provided by you; I?ve left skid marks throughout the Internet looking for what I think I need.

As to the snide remarks from childish people, let it role off you back, you find that kind of treatment on all forums. I should know, I?ve been a moderator on several forums and gave that up, it?s not worth it. :(

Well, I really have a fan/stalker here. The above posts on how not to get help from me has now advanced to this:

I have neither the time nor the desire to reply to your hatefilled PMs. Every single other AT member that I've communicated with here has been kind and cordial or they have taken the half a second to let me know they were busy so stick your i'm to busy life you know where and that is that kid.

My PM's are now "hate-filled?" Just because I did not respond to his PM, he is freaking out and saying:

"I'm not sure what caused me to rub you the wrong way but I'll just steer clear of you from now on and I hope you do the same"

I have been a member here since 2000 and this kid joins on Jan 28, 2005 and I have to "avoid him?"

This is the new member I can not stand joining here. At least they usually wear out their welcome here fast.

He also put me on "Ignore". Someone acting like this deserves to be made public:

Great job Minthec, you sure have made your presence known here!

Well, cant the moderators, or administrator warn him, or ban him? I certainly would warn him, and block his IP if he continued.

Take it to them, I would. If all he has to offer this forum is hatred, he should go elsewhere.

I could PM the mods on it, but the new users like him usually don't stay here too long.

I could understand him going a little crazy over me not responding to his PM's for a few days if I was a business or if I was in a trade with him. However, this guide any other advice I give is free.

A least we are getting a few reasonable new members here like you Old Man River:beer:

Thanks for the complement.
I?m certain there are plenty of both old and new decent members here.
Lately I haven?t looked around, or posted in here for the last few months much. I don?t really do that much posting anyway. I will try to get in here more often.

Last night I found out in here one topic that Antec is coming out with some new cases, and one of them is my SONATA that I just bought.

I?m going to wait for the new ones before I purchase my 3200+ Winchester, 939 Processor rig and go with one of my old choices I had scoped out:

ANTEC 2 Life Style Series Black Case With True 380W PS, "SONATA"
AMD Athlon XP 2700+, 333MHz FSB, 256K Cache Processor
BIOSTAR "M7NCG 400" nForce2 IGP Motherboard
1 Gig of Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-2700 ? OEM
Lite-On Black 52X32X52 CD-RW DriveEM
NEC 1.44MB Black Internal Floppy Drive, OEM
Zonet V.92 56K PCI Data/Fax Modem
Seagate 80GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model ST380011A, OEM
Logitech X-120 2.0 Speaker ?RETAIL
Windows XP HOME Service Pack 2 ?OEM
Masscool System Cooler, 90 x 80 x 10 mm, Model "4F01B4 Exhauster"
SAMSUNG SyncMaster 790df (Black) 17" CRT MONITOR

I?ll use the CRT with the new rig and replace it with the ACER AL1714CB Black 17" LCD Monitor later, I can use the SAMSUNG CRT monitor on the Dell I had to restore - - myself. Its CRT monitor is shot.

Is this why you acted exactly the same way towards me as he did towards you today? Well, I'm just glad it's over but remember this, if you don't like what people do to you don't turn around & do it to someone else.

Good thread man, it has helped alot. Hopefully, we can put today behind us and behave like adults.

Minthec sent me rude PM's because I didn't respond the same day.

Pr0d1gy, lets drop the argument. I understand your viewpoint. After reading my thread, you understand mine. I am going back and edit out my comments in the other threads, because now that I have had time to cool down, I shouldn't have kept the argument going.

I have been here for several years, have met some really great people, and I try to help out here and help new users as long as they are respectful. I never question why someone would buy a higher end product. It is their choice, and I try to let them decide. They can read the reviews.

I hope that you will edit out your posts as well as a sign of good will.

JB

Well overall i think it is very nice.... especially for a first guide.

However, there are a few minor problems i see:

1. You tend to insert a bit too much opinion into your advice. A little is good but "The Beast" systems should include SLI and what not, no matter if you think it is worth it or not. Also a short explanation or a link to the video forums for those who dont know what SLI is would be prudent.

2. You say mature, meaning the product has been out for a while. While that can be true, most of the time people are referring to the manufacturing process which the chips were made on. For instance Intel has reduced heat output and power consumption on their lateest series, despite adding another mb of L2 cache, this is because they have become increasingly efficient in manufacturing the processors. Not necessarily how long it has been out. For "the beast" system you should definitely include an Nforce 4 based system. No doubt Nforce 3 is good but Nforce 4 has hit very very few speed bumps along the way and is doing well, mature or not.

3. Just "The Beast" system in general. The Pentium processor you picked is not at the highest end. Additionally you are still using basic value memory. While there is no speed differences by going to value memory, the higher quality memory does OC much farther. If you are building a system such as that most likely you will be overclocking. Also you should not recommend XP Home, XP Pro is much more worth it. Overall you justr need to step the level up. You are being too modest in configuring these system. If you are going to call it they highest end system, then give it the highest end compoents, worth it or not. If they want more bang for their buck yet still want speed they can choose the high end system and not the bleeding edge system.

4. Take Kingwin off of the Quality PSU manf. list. Although i wouldn't quite put them at generic they are definitely not quality.

5. SVC is also a very nice and trusted retailer to buy from. SVC (Silicon Valley Compucycle)

6. X-bit labs is a very prominent reviewer as is HardOCP. I would definitely include them.

7. Your opening comments before you recommend the parts for a particular computer configuration need some work. For example, under basic computers you have
Would be good for basic functions and will run some older games
You shouldn't be recommending a 5200 for that price point. For another couple bucks you shouldn't have a problem finding a Geforce 4 or a 9600Pro or something. With those video cards you should be more than capable of playing all older games and most newer games at decent detail settings.

8. I know i have said it but i cant stress it enough. For the higher end systems you are skimping way too much. Although a 420Watt OCZ could probably power almost any system out there, for a "beast" computer people do not care, they want the best.

9. Ditch the Tt cases. I would say stick to Lian-Li, Antec, SIlverstone, and Coolermaster. However, i wouldn't see anything wrong with recommending the Tt Tsunami which is a very nice case but not for high end and "the beast"

I know this seems like a lot of suggestions, and i do not intend for it to offend you because in reality it is an extremely well put together guide and i applaud you for all the time put into it. I also would like to say i realize it is for new users but you still have to recommend things like they were an experienced user, basic definitions yes, basic explanations yes, but do not skew the reccommendations because they are new.

Keep up the good work. Excellent thread.

-Kevin

Edit: You might want to either take out the poll or include an option that reads "excellent guide, but it could use some work in a couple of areas" or something that means that you dont have to have learned something to post in this thread but that you just want to congratulate.

Hey I love my Aerocool Jetmaster case as well. Has a handle for LAN parties, front & back 120mm fans (have to buy one for the back but the mounting holes are there), has a side window with 80mm fan & T3 grill, and it looks alot cooler than those Lian-Li's & such. Only gripes are no removable hard drive tray (but plenty of room to work with so not a big deal), and no removeable hard drive cage (it can be, but not easily) which is kinda bad for some watercooling setups. I like it alot though.

I think this is a fabulous guide. Great for exactly who it was intended. People like me, who have some, very limited knowledge of the inner workings of a system. And who are really interested in building thier own rig for the first time.

I've been going through threads here for about 4-5 hours a day. I've had ALOT of time on my hands, lately. Even reading some of the more technical, (way)above my head threads. I am learning alot and realising that, as with most everything else in life, there is always much more to learn.

I thank you, UsandThem. Really. I know there are quite a few "hit and run" type people here, that just want all the answers as if you owed it to them. But there are people like that everywhere. Most of the time you don't know until they've run. But there are quite a few so called Noobs who honestly just need a point in the right direction, and are thankfull to get it. I'm thankfull. We were all new once.

I'm glad I found AT, and won't be leaving anytime soon.

Thanks, again.
