I have always lived with the impression that stability depends only on software. The last years I have had a powermac g4, a macbook pro, a mobile acer amd 1.7ghz and a shuttle with a 2ghz athlon, and having run the same OS and software on these systems I have noted that the desktop systems have been more stable. My acer crashed frequently, probably due to overheating and was probably poorly designed from the start. My macbook pro usually behave as it should but it does occasionally crash. My shuttle rarely crashed and the powermac never did.

So it seems to me that stability depend a lot on the hardware...
Could it be that laptops have less cooling? Does those ecc make any real difference.
