In 2014 i purchased an AMD based computer with a 7850k cpu and an R9 280x gpu. My rig has 8gb of ddr3 memory. I cant play hardly any game past 2013 without lag. My wife is now letting me purchase the parts needed to move our system to an Intel brand. I have chosen the the Intel 6600 Skylake (not the K edition), whatever ultra cheap pci x16 mobo i can get and the cheapest memory, if mine is not compatable. Will be making this purchase from Amazon. Can one of you friendly people here help me with links from Amazon to complete this purchase? i would love to use my same memory but i've read amd ddr3 is not compatable with skylake. I'm so sorry for my bad grammar. I'm a simple farm boy.

tell us the resolution you want to play the games at. and what games you want to play. what future games you want to play. tell us exactly what parts you want to replace? just the cpu + gpu + ram? cause you might only need to replace the cpu or an over clock could work too and save you monies.

My monitor supports 1600+900 and that's what i plan to use. At the moment, I get massive frame drops in Final Fantasy online, Dying Light is unplayable and i cant play any Witcher series game etc. I've turned off intergraded gpu in my bios and my computer still sucks. It's gotta be AMD. The secret world has massive lag spikes also.

If you want to reuse your ram you could pick up an i5-4590 or 4690(K) and go the Haswell route.

the 4690k is $224. the 6600 is cheaper by a few dollars. Can i use ddr3 with skylake?

Some 1151 mbs do support ddr3. But its probably better to use the low voltage ddr3. Maybe other posters can offer some clarification on supported ddr3 voltages on socket 1151.

yea, mmo games when you see alot of players in cities your fps would tank no matter what, only top of the line cpus doesn't do that :( they still tank, but will maintain playable fps.

besides that, you can 100% keep your ram and 280x for 1600x900 resolution gameplay for any game.

there were deals 2 weeks ago before black friday for 4690k at 150 - 180$ :( basically get a haswell cpu and save money on rams. https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales this is the place I use to find deals

edit: imo your 7850k cpu should be 100% fine if you disable the IGP and oc it a bit if your current mobo allows, it is what I will do/test before I buy anything. as your ram and gpu is 100% fine.
