Hardrive light blinks nonstop

From the moment that I boot into WinXP the HDD light on the case blinks non stop. I can let the computer sit at the name screen that first comes up and the light blinks. I enter into the Windows Session and the light continues to blink, blink, blink. About 3 seconds apart non stop. I have checked into Windows Task Manager and there are no applications running, and the CPU usage is at 0. This computer has NEVER been connected to the Internet, it is a stand alone machine.

The HDD light responds as normal in all other ways, I remember an older case whereby if you installed the lead on the motherboard backwards it would keep the light on all the time so this isn't the same.

What could be causing the light to blink, it drives me nuts!

ASUS K8N mobo
AMD 3200 processor
1GIG DDR Ram
250 Gig SATA HDD
ATI 9600 vid card
sb live 24 sound card
ms wireless keyboard and mouse

Installing an led backwards (reverse polarity) will make it not work at all. You probably remember hooking up a floppy data cable backwards, which makes the access led stay on constantly.

Some brands of CD Drives like to make the HDD light blink when they check the tray for a cd every few seconds, all normal activity.
