I've never had a hdd drive from natural causes before, but my newish one has been clicking and squealing (short like 1/4s squeak) occasionally for the past while... i think it started doing it a week after i bought the thing.

but.. seems to function fine other than the clicks once in a while, maybe every second day? some days it does it more though

smart says its ok. seagates health thing says its ok. wtf?

one of them seagate 160gb ide deals

Hunker down, shove a few rolls of TP, ketchep, and vaseline in your duffle, and RMA that thing asap.

What says it's your HD. Could be a bad fan. If I had not known better, I'd have thought I had engine knock. I told my wife, my comp is about to throw a rod. It was a bad fan. :)

I've got a broken shopping cart of a hard drive, makes the most annoying noise when seeking, but I just put up with it. I figure no need to RMA it until it starts raping my install of XP. Just personal preference, if it bothers you too much go for a new one.
