Hardrive advice

I have a 3 year old Maxtor 500GB Hardrive. I just ordered a Samsung 1TB drive. I presume since its newer it has better parts and must be a little faster, even though they both have 32MB and are 7200RPM. My question is which drive should I put the Operating System on?? The new 1TB drive and then partition it or the old 500GB Maxtor.
 
I doubt you'll notice a huge difference, I'd guess like you that the 1TB would be a hair quicker due to denser platters and whatnot.
