HardOCP does the P4T533

I've been monitoring the thread he mentioned for the past week+ now and it's been interesting to see some of the results from people who have built a system around this overhyped board. It sure looks like Asus has flopped big time :) If you still don't think the board has major issues after reading his article, check out the thread on HardForums -- it's a disaster. John here from Anandtech, an avid overclocker, purchased and set up the board recently and had similar results to what everyone else is reporting on the HardForums (ie, weird FSB issues, or even instability even at stock speeds!). When's the last time you've seen Asus make a board that was publicly seen as unstable at stock speeds? I've never heard of it, though I don't research all the boards they make. I'm sure it can't be very common though.

It's a shame too with all the memory performance, and great performance in general the board offers when it works properly. Let's hope Asus addresses these problems with a board revision.. then, just maybe, I'll buy one. :)

Yeah, it's definitely quite a disappointment. That board was looking SO promising on paper, and of course it got rave reviews from, well, virtually every site..

Anyways, yeah, I was going to buy one, until of course I read all that. Now it looks like the GA-8IHXP will be my board of choice. Pretty bad for Asus to release such a faulty board. As far as I could tell their boards are usually quite stable. ~_~

Finally.. somebody responded :p This thread got moved from GH.. heh. :(

Anyway, don't get your hopes up on the GA-8IHXP either, it doesn't have an AGP/PCI lock and is limited to somewhere in the 150MHz FSB range (156 or somewhere near it). It's a GREAT board, but missing the number one thing I look for in overclocking :(

I've been following that thread closely.. as I do own the board myself. Hope they do a recall/revision I can RMA too if these problems persist.

Yeah, I know, sadly it maxes out at 156 MHz FSB, and then you have to deal with a 39 MHz PCI bus. :(

But I just can't wait any longer! :(

Also, Imported, are you having all those problems as well? Can you even run your CPU at stock speeds?

I can run my 1.8A at 1.8.. 100fsb. I've been running 147x4 (2650ish) for the past few days quite stable, did a 24 hour Prime95 test, loops of 3dMark2001SE.

133fsb doesn't work though.. but 134 does. It's basically a "find out what works and what doesn't" board.

Yeah, and I heard that RIMMs 4200 could outperform PC1066, looks like DDR P4 for me...

The Asus P5A. looked great on paper but turned out to be the biggest piece of crap ever made.

Hmmm......I thought 4200 WERE PC1066, and the RIMM 3200's were PC800?
