So please explain, how would they win some other way?

If I were to guess, I would guess that Nvidia will have at least a soft launch by end of year. But, there could be a reason that they're releasing specs to try and counter the 5870 instead of benches, or better yet - the actual hardware. I guess we'll have to wait and see what hardware sites end up with egg on their face.

-I'm pretty sure he's referencing TWIMTBP and software gimping ATI cards. I thought that much was obvious.

However, I don't think anyone really expects the GT300 to do anything less than blow away the competition in performance, even if half the posted specs are anywhere near reality.

Not that the specs aren't impressive, but we certainly don't know how fast it will be or won't be. Nvidia looks to be putting an emphasis on GPGPU. How that will translate into frame rates, we'll have to wait and see. But the specs are pretty well par for what was expected, aren't they? AMD mostly doubled their 4870 specs, doesn't this card more or less double the GTX280?

That'd be like the original Phenom. I highly doubt NV would go that route.

It would seem anand is on board with the Q1 2010 at the earliest theory also as per their recent article. It would also appear that nvidia's is split between different idea on what they want from the 300. While it's all exciting in theory the actual performance will determine it's worth. The GT300 high end models still be positioned to gamers and it's in that area where the card will need to shine first and foremost.

I hope they don't lose sight of that.

I effin HATE their reviews though. Comparing one card on ultra settings while the other on medium.

Makes no sense!!
As Kyle has repeatedly said, they are showing what you can expect to play at, rather than just power vs power. Do I agree? Sometimes. But it illustrates what they expect an average player to play with.

Yes on both accounts.

The problem is the price.

Having GPGPU features is great... for those that use them.

For someone like me that is mostly interested in the gaming performance from a graphics card, the GPGPU features don't matter and if they make the final product more expensive it is just throwing away money from my perspective.

The price/performance was what made be buy my 2nd ATI card ever last generation (with the 1st being the 9500 pro that unlocked to 9700 pro :p ).

For me the "non-reusable" parts of PC - CPU, motherboard (I know you can upgrade CPU without a new motherboard but I've done that like a couple of times) and GPU - should cost at most $500-600, or if you prefer to read it in another way, I don't like to spend more than that upgrading my pc (not taking in account any money made on selling old parts).
