First, my constructive comment-

I would agree that it is possible that XFX getting into bed with ATI was probably the best thing that could have happened to ATI (besides the 4xxx series). nV might consider making an example of them or at least the EU branch.

Secondly,

ATI has won in my own humble opinion (who am I anyways?) the last round between the GTX2xx series vs the ATI 4xxx series just because of the price to performance ratio. They were not the top FASTEST card compared to nV's 285/295's but for something along the lines of 85-90% performance for 50-60% of the price..pretty good.
(Numbers are of course a rough estimate)

No only a handful of ATI fans believe this. NVIDIA simply sells a better product and of course more people want to buy it. Sales data shows this.

Look the 275 was faster than the top ATI GPU. So was the 280 and 285. That means ATI had 4th fastest GPU last round.

As for the whole "bang for the buck" argument. My 260 was cheaper than a 4870 at the time, so the argument is...invalid. This was always a lame argument to begin with. Besides with ATI cards so overpriced right now, you would think this would be an issue with you.

On average NVIDIA met them on price, beat them on performance and dominated them in market share and sales.

I dont know where you are imagining these benchmarks, but ATI 4890 ties with GTX285 according to AT. 4890 just down rapes 275.

An overclocked 4890 is equal to a stock clocked 275. That would place it at stock behind not only the 275, but the 280 and the 285.

I can list more reviews that show just that.

Even under your biased review (showing those benchmarks under 2560x1600), ATI clearly rapes or ties to 285. Please, at least read the review, and not just jump to the conclusion.

Take a look at AT's review.
COD: 4890 = 285 > 275
Crysis: They are pretty much within few fps range
FarCry2: 4890 = 285 > 275
Fallout: 4890 > 285 > 275
L4D: 4890 = 285 > 275
GRID: 4890 > 285 > 275

So this puts 4890 over 285 & 275. When Overclocked 4890 clearly rapes both under these most played games.
If you have a 30" LCD playing under 2560x1600, I'd say get the nvidia 275/285 over 4890. Otherwise 1680x and 1900x resolution clearly favors 4890

The fastest card was 4870x2 in many games, beating out the GTX295, Derek even wrote an entire article about multi-GPU options: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3517&p=14

5750 beats the 4850 or mmaybe it's 5770? In Canada a 4870 512 is dead even with a GTS250 1GB, With 4850 512 and 1gb a fair amount cheaper. And the 4890 is usually close to the GTX260.

I don't live in Europe anymore and I have no plans of getting a Visiontek as long as XFX is around so this news doesn't really break my heart...:)

I thought the powerful cards were a way to showcase the product line, then sell copious amounts of GPU's to OEM's? Though, the OEM probably doesn't even care as long as it hits a price/performance ratio.

Does anyone have actual numbers showing the GPU's sold? Wouldn't that indicate the winner?

I talked with someone who actually knows whats happening at XFX, and the rumor is completely false. XFX is working on fermi-based cards and are still producing GT200-cards (although VERY little coz Nvidia is using most GT200-chips for tesla/quadro). Nvidia-based XFX-cards won't be going anywhere in Europe.

This needs to go up as the first post if possible
