I can't bear to part with my DVD-Audio collection. It's really great stuff to listen to, which I can't do on ANY other soundcard.. :|

NO! I just got another hard lock with the onboard LAN disabled, Compaq NIC in, and TV and Matrox out. Do you really think this could be hard drive related?

Yeah, stability issues are almost always 'cause people cheese on the PSU. Gotta get a high quality name-brand if you want a rock-solid rig. If your PSU isn't the problem, I'd try turning down your voltage a little bit and rolling back your CAS settings on the memory. Ensure all connections inside and out of the box are connecting fully and, of course, you'll want to undo any overclocking changes you might have made. I'd also set BIOS options to "fail-safe defaults". If none of the above works, I am sorry, but you might have defective hardware. Sorry I didn't read any of the other posts, I just kinda saw the thread name and wrote what I knew.

Good luck.

INCONCEIVABLE!

My M-Audio Revo 5.1 came in last night and I popped it in. It worked well for about 9 hours, then it hardlocked just like the Audigy 2 ZS did! I previously had over 3 1/2 days of uptime using the onboard audio. I have NO EARTHLY IDEA what this is about.

I know this may sound wacky, but I have seen a bad keyboard and mouse hard lock a pc. Might want to try swapping those out. Also change out your LAN cable as well incase there is a short in there causing you headaches.

I don't get why BOTH cards would do this. I will probably try reinstalling Windows (again) next week.

I was hoping it was a faulty motherboard when I replaced my IS7 and P4 combo. It's STILL doing it with the A8V. :(

NO NO NO NO!

I reloaded Windows 2 days ago in attempt to try to remove all causes of software crashes. I loaded XP SP1, but did not load the hotfixes or much software. I did not load AVG, DVD software, system monitoring software, Ultramon, etc. I have Firefox and mIRC running, as well as Winamp and WMP9 (not simultaneously). I was actually at over 2 days of uptime when I just crashed. I was looking for my Ghost cd and then my sound jittered, then repeated over and over, locking the system.

I have NO IDEA what to replace now. Even if I were to start replacing parts, I'm not sure what to replace. I'm running memtest86+ v1.26 tonight while I go to work. I am REALLY hoping that it finds some errors. :(

beatle seeings how you already went with a fresh OS try XP again and turn off ACPI in the BIOS then work the IRQ's around so there is no conflict if thats what's up

Do I have to reload XP after turning off ACPI in the BIOS or is this just a quick toggle?

I've not touched ACPI yet. I tried it with my Lian Li cardreaded disconnected - resulted in a lock. I'm trying it without my 2 burners connected now.

Crashed in near record time. I've flashed to bios 1009. If this doesn't work, I'm going to put my Raptor on the Promise SATA controller.

Which IRQ exactly is the audigy on? I've read people had problems like this (with an MSI board) and fixed it by making sure it was on IRQ 5 with nothing sharing that one. Usually the card will have to be in pci 3 or 5 as I think those don't share anything.

Hope this helps some...

It's set to IRQ 18.

If I need to change it, how is that done? I'm guessing go into safe mode or something, as the options to change it in device manager are all greyed out.

Edit: the bios didn't fix it. I'm looking into how to change SATA controllers without reloading Windows. (I saw it in a link off the forum somewhere)

Edit: found it, now just have to wait for Asus' download page to come back up. It seems like it's down more than it's up.

Here's a screenshot of device manager showing my current irq assignments.

I give up. I emailed Asus with an explanation of everything I've done. Hopefully they'll RMA the board and that will take care of it.

UPDATE: IT JUST LOCKED WITH THE AUDIGY OUT!

I'd grown tired of the crashes at random, so took the soundcard out and figured I'd deal with the onboard until Asus emailed me back. The computer hadn't been up for 3 hours before it DID IT AGAIN! What else can I replace here?

I don't know if Asus ever replied to my inquiry because my domain went down earlier this week and it's STILL down.

I replaced my Raptor and pulled my 250GB Maxtor out. I reinstalled Windows on the literally brand new drive. I had over 2 days of uptime when it crashed at 3:22pm while I was asleep. God, I just want to throw the whole box away.

I just got off the phone with Asus. They said I should call the RMA dept, which opens in 3 hours. Though I had this problem before, maybe I just got two bad boards...

They said they should send a board back to me after 5-10 business days. No advance replacement (charge cc, credit back when board is received). :| That's a bit disappointing as I'll be without my main rig for 5-10 days. :(

Did you ever run diagnostics programs on your hard drives? Seems like the only thing in the entire system you didn't replace. Are you still overclocking your cpu? Thats the type of hardlocks I seem to experience when I try to overclock my CPU past 3.6ghz. Prime95 will run fine, but during random times, it will just hard lock. At 3.6ghz or below, no matter what I throw at it it runs fine. Not sure if you set anything back to defult settings while trying to figure all this out. Same thing with your 6800OC, unlocked the pipes and vertex shaders? Just trying to think of something that might help, seems you have tried everything else..

Yes, I have run diagnostics on my hard drives. I've also run them in other computers that have no stability problems.

Well, I got my motherboard back from Asus yesterday. It is the same board. The action they took was "other." When I called to ask what these other repairs were, they didn't know and couldn't tell me.

Oh, and my computer locked up again this morning. :( The only thing I have not replaced is the case itself.

Sounds like they didn't do anything at all to the board. :(
In all of this, what PSU are you using? What are the specs, and how old is it?
