Hardest games of all time

Contra 1 is not that hard. I used to beat it without using the code routinely. Heck, I just beat it not long ago after not playing it for years by using the code.

Ninja Gaiden, Blaster Master, and certainly Battletoads. No idea how any human beat those games without cheating in some way.

Generally games that are poorly made are nearly impossible. Frustrating controls that don't seem to work on a consistent basis, and of course general apathy or hatred towards the game makes players put it down prematurely.

This topic has come around a few times this year. There was one game on the list there though, I do not recall anyone mentioning, Sinistar. My god that game was impossible.

When we would go to the arcade at the mall in the early 80's, every time a cool, new, game came out, there would be a good sized crowd gathered around it, to watch the game play. Sinistar did not have a crowd very long, as it became obvious it was a quarter thief.

Dragon's Lair on the other hand, biggest crowd I ever seen for a video game. They would wait in line to get a spot where you could actually see anything.

Most of these have been reviewed by the AVGN. They do look hard! Silver Surfer is probably the worst I've seen. It's like those wire mazes where you can't touch the sides, except there's crap flying at you too.

"I hunger."

But Dragon's Lair isn't that hard. You just have to have a good memory. I've been playing Dragon's Lair since it came out in the arcades, then on the PC (DVD version) then emulated on the XBox and now on Blu-ray on the PS3. It's not bad, but my favorite is Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp. Damn I love that game!

The floppy disc version from the 90s was surprisingly good.

When they mention Dragon's Lair, I think they're talking about the NES version, not the arcade. It was pretty infamous for being incredibly hard and having broken controls. (NSFW: foul nerdy language)

It should have been "I hunger.... for your quarters!"

Watching that AVGN installment, those game devs should have had their feet caned.

Far Cry on max difficulty.

I did it. I must have done that level where you fall out of the chopper and jump off the waterfall and you have no gun and the monsters are chasing you 100 times. HEH

Hmmm, Has Marble Madness been mentioned in any of these previous threads? Maybe I was just young and sucked, but I remember that game being fun but way too hard.
