Hardest game you can remember?

Im playing PoP: Warrior Within right now on the PS2. I cant remember a harder game....this is a smash your controller and scream profanity game!

I think if a game is too difficult it kinda ruins it for me.

Battletoads. For NES. Hardest. Game. EVAR.

Well, maybe not, but it certainly ranks in the top ten.

Although honestly, I didnt find POP:WW that difficult, even the 2 boss fights at the end only took like 3 tries or so.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Sega Genesis. I remember dying alot in the sewers where you're on the surf boards and try to kill enemies that are in your way.

Ditto - that game was insanely difficult.

Good call!

Maybe it was just because I was younger, but I found many of the early NES/SNES games to be extremely frustrating, provoking a wide variety of curses and thrown controllers.

hardest game ever... freaking Ninja Gaiden on Xbox.. game was pure punishment.. never made it off the freaking blimp

That Nintendo and Super Nintendo game where you were this guy in armor and then if you got hit once you would loose some of your armor, a second time you would be in your underaroos, and the third you would die.... now that game was impossible. I hated playing that game coz it would frustrate me so much.

The original Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden 3 (limited continues ... wtf?)

The original NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game (although mostly due to the TERRIBLE controls).

Ditto. I remember a level that took me weeks to get past.

Last boss on Ninja Gaiden 1

In college I broke out Ninja Gaiden 1 again just to see if I could do it. After spending all day at it, I actually beat it. It was incredible. My fingers were acting completely independently of my brain. I think I may have blacked out for a moment.

All I can say is that I will never play Ninja Gaiden 1 again.

Super Ghouls and Ghosts?

That wasn't that hard... the only thing that sucked about that is that you had to beat the final boss with a weapon that only appeared RANDOMLY throughout the game, or else you start over from the beginning. That, and one of the items you could get would upgrade your armor, but it would still break with only one hit...which was pointless.

I gave up on Ninja Gaiden.. not my type of game, and way too hard!

Project Gotham racing was extremely hard at the final levels.. at least to get the best medals... I about threw the controller through the TV tube a few times....the computer controlled cars cheat and play dirty.

Until I figured out how to build up maximum Scrolls on each character, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES was virtually impossible.

Serious Sam can get pretty crazy on the harder difficulties. Of course I have trouble beating it -- legitimately -- on easy.

The final battle in Jedi Knight II was asinine. It wasn't hard so much as a game of chance, since you never knew if the asshat would throw you with level 4 force pull and then cut you in half while you were stunned. (Happened 90% of the time) As it appeared to be, to the best of my knowledge, unblockable, I had to replay that battle repeatedly.

Battletoads was incredibly hard. I never beat it as a kid.

It was just such a terribly programmed game. Precise jumping was nearly IMPOSSIBLE, and was necessary in certain levels (sewers, for instance). Plus glitches everywhere where enemies would disappear/reappear. Ugh.

I believe it appears in place of the Armor treasure chests when you play through the second time, provided your armor is completely maxed out and you don't have it already. I got to the end of the game, read the annoying little message, then went back to the beginning and found it in the very first treasure chest in that level.

I always found Defender and Robotron to be difficult as far as stand up games go.

Ultimate Wizard on my C64 was a challenge too. The only game on my Commodore that ever had problems with locking up. Great game, though.

However, I would name the original Bard's Tale as the hardest game I remember. Mapping that thing with no hint books or internet is a daunting task. The subsequent 2 installments were even worse.

Oh man... I remember having so much fun with that game (I was a TMNT freak back then). I couldn't believe my eyes when I got to ride the Turtle van after that swimming board... of course, I never got past that part but I would play it over and over again just because I loved the turtles.
