CPA exam?

Are you kidding me? CPA exam is a joke.

"Ohh darn, I failed one part, I can retake it over and over for the next couple years and not sweat the rest of the exam!"

What a crock. That's like failing HS physics and being able to retake it 2 years later for an A. CPAs are finance wannabes.

Every finance guy I know has penis envy for us accountants. Finance guys are poor mans accountants.

ROFL, that's what accountants say when guys on the street bring in bonus' 5-10x as much as a CPA partner. Penis size matters not when you are too poor to buy a chick a drink. Besides, my wife doesn't think I have a small wang.

Counting money is definitely not as good as raising it or making it. Any moron can count it.

CFA is probably one of the hardest exams that a large number of people take.

That's how the exam works? Looks like I made the right choice going the accounting path.

What, is an actuary like that guy on Along Came Polly (risk assessor)?

In a nutshell, yes, they assess business risk (for insurance, pensions, liabilities, etc.) in terms of dollars somehow. As for exams, I think that the FE or MCAT would probably be much more difficult. Even the pharmacy licensing exam is probably more difficult than actuarial exams (which have about a 40% pass rate and take average of 10-12 years to complete).

Dave

the FE is mind rape :( but no matter how bad you do, as long as you're in the top 20% of the scores during that session, you pass

I didn't think the FE was that bad. Its not uncommon for schools with decent engineering programs to have 90%+ pass rates..and most people don't really study that much for it..the morning session just tested mostly the basics of the first couple of years..the afternoon session of which I took the EE part, was a little harder, but I was also getting exhausted

Wow, what a pissing match this has turned out to be for the money folk.

In my opinion, having looked at both the CPA and CFA exams (and having passed the CPA exam) the CFA exam is definitely more rigorous, and it's less forgiving. That's not to say that the CPA exam isn't difficult (it definitely is!), it's just structured to allow greater forgiveness for failing a particular section or two.

As for the pissing match between the two professions, have fun with your 90 hour workweek, finance folk. I'll take my salary and my 50 hour workweek any day.

I'm gonna go ahead and say the toughest exam is getting board certified in a surgical specialty. The process takes a couple years and involves written, oral, and clinical portions. Of course you cannot qualify for this exam until you have gone through college, the MCATs, medical school, the 3 written medical licensure exams (USMLE), followed by 3-7 years of residency and fellowships. Perhaps the exam itself may not be the most difficult thing you have ever done, but surely the process of getting there is tough.

Funny, I work 50 hours for a pretty dang good amount of money with 3 years of experience and I am a CFA charterholder. Now, if I went to the street I would be working 90 hours, but then I'd also be making 250-300k, with massive increases. 90 hours sucks, but it brings in a crap-ton of cash.

I was referring to the Wall Street folk. Congrats on the CFA, that's a mark of distinction anywhere you go in the financial services profession.

One of the hardest test to pass is the test for becoming a Master of Wines.
