I just got a used Maxtor Diamondmax 2880 11.5 gig. I converted to NTFS,reformated and installed windows xp pro. A couple times since Ive done this, during boot it will say that it needs to run checkdisk and fix some errors. After it does that it boots fine. I checked the error log and it said the file system was corrupt and unusable and thats why windows repaired it. This has happend 2wics in 2 days. Is this a bad harddrive?

Did you run scandisk, with a through (sp) scan? Could be bad sectors, which are pretty common among used HDDs.
