Harddrive help

so basically one day i truend on my comp and it said WINNT/SYSTEM32/XPSYSTEm could not be found, or it said sumething like that. and my friend says is because i forced shut down like 5 times in one day. Help please, im considering putting it as a slave on another comp extract the important data, then hdkill it and start over
