Harddrive / Data Backup Question

I just completed building a 2nd system and now want to transfer/backup data from old system to the new system. I don't have easy access to any portable mass storage device
(Zip Drive, CD-RW, etc). My question is, can I simply remove the HDD from the old system and plug it into the new system as a second drive, and then copy the data I want to move to the other drive? What problems can I expect to encounter if I do this?

The new system is on ME, the old system is original Win98 (ie. not SE). I can delete Win98 from the old drive before doing this if it would help (I'm planning to install ME on it anyway).

yep just make the second drive slave no need to uninstall 98

I did the same thing before. You don't need to uninstall anything.
