I have a 4drive array setup on the onboard promise controller, and HDtach is giving me really low results. Two drives scrored around 90mb/s and 4 drives scrore any where from 20 to 50mb/s depending on the stripe size.

What is another good benchmarking utility to confirm these numbers?
If those are the best numbers the onboard controller can muster im going to buy a "real" controller, but id like to run another test to be sure.

Thanks
Jason

The 2 drive 90MB/s, if average read speed sounds right for a 7200RPM drive. The 4 drive score is horrible though.

Try ATTO, AIDA32 and Sandra even.

What version HD Tach are you using? What motherboard as well?

If you use Sandra, recommend 2004 version. Noticed anomalies with the 2002 version (with all upgrades) tests, but the 2004 version checks close to other measurements.

Im at work, but i believe its HDtach270. Those are avg numbers, I agree that the 2drive numbers are decent, but there is either a bug in the raid controller or HDtach with the 4drives, and i need to find out which.

HDtach2.7 deffinitely has some bugs, its numbers are not consistant with a few other utilities including sandra.
