i am sick and tired of my ibm gxp 60 60 gig..
going to rma it and hope they will send me a GXP 120 and gonna sell that off.

I will like to buy a new harddisk, sometime end of this week.
Which is the fastest now? i heard of some very large capacity disk like 120 gig which have a new 8 meg burst/cache and is supposing to be really fast.

any idea what brand and make is it? will prefer maxtor or western digital

cheers...

The Western Digital special edition drives are the ones with 8MB cache. They come in 100GB and 120GB sizes.

cool..that was what i have been looking for.
so what is the uses of this 8 meg cache.? does it make a real life improvement that can be felt and seen on the desktop, rather than from the manual.

cheers

I also recommend the maxto Diamond Max plus series and the WD line, the are all good performers and solid values.

if you get the special edition of the WD drives with 8mb cache, it will make a difference in the real world, meaning you can feeling the difference in real word usage. The use of larger cache allow a much high burst transfer rate, because more data can be stored in the cache and can be able to be retrieve fast.
