hardcore email monitoring

The VP and Prez here not only monitor every email coming into the office, but the read them and interject a reply if they feel the need to.

I received an email from an employee that his anti-virus was going to expire, so I informed him that I would be over later to install AVG as intermin protection.

The VP intercepted the email response and gave me his stance on it.

WTF!!!

LOL. Don't your VP and Prez have tee times or something better to do? Maybe.....growing the business? 😕

so thats what vp's do all day huh?😀

for business emails... who cares... you should follow the company rules anyway, so there should be no prob...

for personal emails, get a webbased email account, or get encrypted email... just get an https webmail and all your probs are fixed

what's your office e-mail addy? 😉

Believe me, I have no problems using the company email fro compnay purposes. I just think it is absurd that they sit there and do this.

Good thing I am migrating us to exchange and make their lives a little bit harder.

wow what company? if they are reading all the email then they are not doing there jobs. Im sure the stockholders would like to know that.

I think its silly that they would read them.first its a waste of there tiem. not to mention what do they expect to find?

just seems a big waste of money and time.

wow. so since you are the IT guy, cut their access. They should have better things to do like umm i dunno GROW THE BUSINESS!!!

I wouldnt last a day in a big brother shop like that.

Better yet, your the IT guy, so send an email from the VP to some other officer about scoring with the Pres' wife and daughter at the same time. You know you want to be as cool as BOFH.

The problem is, is that the system they are on right now is completely pop based email. No centralized control or permissions.

at least not until our new systems go in.

we are a small shop -26 people and are private.

here is their stance,

they never require password changes,
the vp has a list of everyones passwords. as do i.
all the email passwords are weak and the same.

policy will change, oh yes, it will.

seriouisly i would quit, but in all honesty all the email i send on my work account are work related.

haha that would be classic.

I would just have to say,

the migration to a new computing platform requires additional changes in infrastructure, thus implementing high levels of system security.

While I think his management style is absurd, I have to say you have no expectation of privacy in your place of employment or while using company communications.

I am ok with that. However, when the pres goes to a sales rep telling them about an email that they have not even got yet is ludicrous!

Oh, I agree. Like I said, his managment style is absurd. Micromangment is the worst and most unproductive way to manage.

Agreed on both counts. Your boss is perfectly within his rights to do what he's doing; he's also a dickhead for doing it.
