Hey guys. I'm a huge baseball fan and did one of the Yahoo fantasy baseball leagues here last year. Those are good, but I'm interested in doing something for the hardcore fans out there. Who want to have to really research picks, to have to use non known players on teams, to even involve salaries.
So here it is: We get about 20 teams or so. The size of the teams will be a little bigger than a usual league. Due to the extra teams and players, we won't do the whole draft live. Maybe the first few rounds and then go to a message board draft (off of AT) where you go in order and you have a certain number of hours to post your pick. I've done it before and it can take a couple of weeks but it works out.
What makes this league different is a salary cap. Maybe have a $85 million cap or so. Flexible depending on what people in the league want. The point is, you aren't just going after the best players but the best deals. Maybe A-Rod isn't worth $20 mil. You decide. And if you don't fill up your cap room in the draft, that's okay, because it gives you some room to trade for or sign a higher priced player down the line. It adds a whole new element to the league. We will use 2005 salaries.
This league will take time, but it would bring together people who truly love fantasy baseball and want to put in the effort.
Once the draft is completed, we could either do this on Yahoo or I might buy some good web based software and run the league through that.
Any suggestions? Interest? Let me know. Pitchers and Catchers report in 16 days.
