I'm currently using addaction.net and they cannot offer me cost effective pricing in terms of the bandwidth and storage space I want.

I have my email and picture gallery (coppermine) hosted on there.

is it pretty easy to switch hosts over to a new one? Any tips you guys can offer me?

Yes, it is very easy to switch host. Even easier if you move to another host that uses the same control panel.

Most host will assist in moving your accounts too.

Jim is correct, it's easiest if you switch to another web host which offers the same control panel.

Some web hosts will offer to move your web sites for you :)

Which web host are you switching to?
How much disk space/bandwidth are you looking for and what's your budget?

Can anyone recommend a good Windows based host? I've been using Fluid Hosting for the past two years. While I've been happy with their service, their recent policy changes are causing me concern so I'd like to hear recommendations of other QUALITY hosts. Quality is more important to me than cost. I like to not feel a need to worry about my sites staying up while I'm sleeping or on vacation.

Thanks!

What policy changes?

I would look at JodoHost.com which has received rave reviews on WHT:

Thanks Rossman! :)

As for Fluidhosting:
http://forums.fluidhosting.com/showthread.php?t=2604&page=1&pp=20

In short: FH will force customers to upgrade to new plans at the end of their current plan. New plans will cost many customers more than they were paying. The wording of the agreement is such that customers are not permitted to change to a lesser plan. Any customers not choosing a new plan will automatically be upgraded and billed for an upgraded plan at the end of their current contract.

There's also text that claims they have the right to own all data on the servers if the customer is deliquent in payment.

I've been happy with FH so I'm going to keep a watch on how things develop but I also want to look around in case it's time for me to jump ship.

Wow that really sucks.

From a business perspective I can understand Daves position but it's still a raw deal for the consumer.

About webhosts moving your stuff from your old webhost... do it yourself if you have anything remotely complicated about your site like forums and pic hosting and such. Don't trust it to someone else, is my advice.

I agree.

I'm simply so sick of looking for new hosts. I'd like to be able to afford to run my own dedicated server, but I can't justify the cost to my business at this point.

If I change hosts, again, the new host will be my 5th web hosting service since early 2002. It's such a pain in the ass.

Unmetered is a joke. Please. Read WHT before you jump onboard half of these hosts. Most of them will die in a year or two.... It's not hard to start a webhosting business. I have done one and it has failed....

I want to spend under $10 a month for the most storage I can get.

I have my personal photo gallery online, and i share with friends and family. i don't really need the unlimited bandwidth. I just want to have reliable host and ability to put coppermine on my site.

anhosting.com is offering 15gb storage and 250gb bandwidth for $7.95 a month. good or bad?

I've used HostPC for over a year now and have been VERY happy with them. I renewed with them for another year last month at the same price/special that I signed up with to begin with.

I highly recommend them. Great people too. ;)

To be perfectly honest you're looking for unrealistic pricing and will get screwed eventually anyway.

So if I were you I'd either get more realistic expectations, increase your budget to $30 - $50/mo or bite the bullet and sign up for midphase/anhosting and be prepared for "I told you so" in a few months :p

Does your web site use or really need 250GB bandwidth? How much bandwidth do you average per month?

heh, my "THEPLAN" account w/ addaction is ending soon too. i don't plan on renewing. nothing against their service, but i've found http://www.moreweb.com a better value and more prompt service.

I'm not sure what to think of DreamHost.com but they have hundreds of happy AT/FW customers. I would definitely choose DreamHost.com over midPhase.com make sure to use one of their *cough* coupons *cough*. Last year I got:

Free domain
1200MB disk space
120GB (maybe 240GB) bandwidth
for $9.24 PER YEAR

I absolutely hate DreamHost's control panel compared to Plesk, Ensim, DirectAdmin, H Sphere or the purdy cPanel.

I have said this before, and I will say it again. I have had GREAT luck with Telnap. He (DeviousTrap on this board) came through in a time of need to help pull my site back together. I currently have him manage my main server (i-hacked.com) as well I have a reseller package though him.

Check them out they got some great deals on plans!

Nothing really can beat DreamHost's offer.
