Hello everyone. I am running Windows XP and have been having problems with crashes lately. Just today, I booted the system and when the logon screen came up, a Windows error message came up saying HARD ERROR. I clicked okay, only for the box to appear several times. I think that it might be the hard drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I would ask again in the Operating System forum and include the exact error code. A hard error can be any thing from a corrupted file to bad drivers.

It was on a laptop that someone wanted me to look at. The error is not on a blue screen, but just on a Windows popup that says UNKNOWN HARD ERROR.

Thanks, but there really is no error code. It is not on a BSOD, it is just a Windows popup that says UNKNOWN HARD ERROR. I posted here because I thought it might be a failing HD or something, but I will try the OS section.

If it's a windows message check the event viewer under administrative tools. The error should show up and hopefully give more details. Other than that I'd say take away it's Viagra, lol.
