I'm going to get a Hard drive but I was just wondering a few things.
This is the HD that I'm planning to buy.
41Gb IBM Ericcson 60GXP ATA-100 (8.5ms 2MB Cache 7200rpm) 87.50 102.81
This is in £ as I'm in UK. I was wondering is it worth buying a ATA 100 controller card as I've got an ASUS pv4vx or something similar I can't remember it exactly. But I know it supports ATA66.
My question is if I buy a controller card how much faster will the ATA100 be in the real world? What type of performance increase will I get? Also what type of sustained data transfers can I get? I read the specs of the HD I am going to buy and it said 40mb but thats not sustained. My friend has the 75GXP model and it can't sustained that or anywhere near it. He has moving videos of 500mb each and it took quite some time. His pc spec PIII 933 512mb pc133 cas2 ram and the 75GXP 30GB HD.
Thanks for the advice guys.
