Hard Drives

What is best to look for in a hard drive?
Cache size? 8, 16, 32, 64
Brand?
Size?
Sata ?
Plan to use with a Z68 intel MB

I dont think I have that large of a Hard Drive now? Anyway I did not fill it up. It was a Seagate Barracuda 8Meg Cache 7200RPM SATA3.0, Jun 14 2008. Still runs good and quiet. On my Receipt it says $47.99.

I personally am going to buy something in the next day or so. I think it is a crap shoot (That refers to a gambling game).

This is what I am considering:

I have not been ripping videos mostly I surf the Internet and play a few older games. I may install the newest version of MS Office and win 7 64. I watch a lot of Internet Video Streaming from Hulu, etc.

I do not pay any new games and I dont really have a plan to buy a gaming video card.

I'd go with a western digital black. Oddly enough, the 500GB is the same price as the 1Tb which is on sale right now.

WD 1TB Black drive

Twice the size, 5 year warranty and double the cache for 40 dollars more than the seagate.

$129 just seems like a lot of money for only 1tb. I expected to be getting 3-4 tb drives for that price by now.

I picked up my 2TB seagate for around that price recently...only thing was, a lot of newegg reviews were saying the drives were showing up DOA. Maybe I got lucky, but its been running good so far.

As far as the price, blame the floods and gouging. Before the floods I remember my bud picking up a 1TB WD green drive for $54.99 newegg shell shocker. After the floods it was closer to 150. Prices have started to come back down thankfully, same drive is now 109.00.

lol especially when u factor 9 months ago, a 2tb hard drive was 79.99... :\

<---- personally waiting for prices to drop.
The only way were gonna pull it off is NOT to buy hard drives and make the companys suffer from profit / loss margins so they have no choice but to lower the cost in order to peek buyers and stay afloat.

unfortunatley calculating space.. i think i can only hold out for another 6-8 months tops b4 im screwed...

I bought my wd20ears nearly a year ago, and it was only $79.99. Who would have thought that globalization would screw up our cheap hdd's???

Prices have dropped enough for me to buy a pair of new drives (WD Black and Hitachi). They’re not at pre-flood levels, but it was a drop in the bucket compared to what I spend on graphics cards. Also I hadn’t bought a new drive since 2008.
