hard drives

I am looking to buy a new hard drive. I am thinking about the Maxtor Diamondmax 10 250g SATA. Does Maxtor make good hard drive. I find it amazing that they are able to sell a 250g hard drive for under a 100, while seagate and WD sell it for about 130-150. I currenlty own a seagata 120g, and very happy with its quite nature adn speed. Does maxtor offer the same?

I also have a Seagate hard drive, nice and cool.

You can find Seagate 250GB for around $100, as well as one from WD. Maxtor makes fine hard drives, and they are usually faster than either the Seagate 7200.8s or the non-Raptors from Western Digital.

If I were building a computer today, I would get either a Seagate 250GB or Western Digital 250GB WD2500KS.

I know that Seagate and Samsung offer the quietest drives on the market if that is what you are going for... they also both offer 5 year warranties so that is nice...

Where are you finding these prices? I know that on Newegg the Seagates and Samsungs are $110... and that is fairly reasonable...

250 GB MAxline 3 = best bang for buck. I got mine for $109.99, hell for a 7200 RPM 250 GB HDD with 16 MB of cache you cant beat it.

Hitachi/Seagate/Samsung/Western Digital (in that order, in my opinion of best to least best). All are good. I don't and won't use Maxtor.

I only have Maxtor's, all five of them. Best bang for the buck esp with the Maxline 3. But then that's me.

from my personal experience, do not get maxtor or hitachi. My western digital and samsung drives are mint. never had a complaint. had 2 failed maxtor ones, so avoid at all cost.
