Hard Drive Write Protected

I am trying to reformat a laptop hard drive..it's a 30 gig IBM Travelstar. Everytime I try to erase the current partitions it says it has a write protect feature and it won't let me continue. Is there anyway I can get it off or am I screwed?🙁
 
I got the hard drive from ebay and I am using OSR-2 to format etc. I tried using the Windows XP starup disks as well but right at the end of the formatting it stalls because it is encrypted.
