Hard Drive Won't Partition Properly

I have a 160GB hard drive and I have 2 partitions C:\ and D:\.

my C:\ drive is 10 gig large and is used primarily for the OS (Windows XP Pro).

my D:\ drive is 121 gig large.

The problem lies in the unused, unallocated space. There is, according to Partition Magic and the label on my HDD, 21.5 gigs of unallocated space. I've tried creating a partition and merging it with either of the other partitions but after I click apply and reboot nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Requirements for support of 48-bit LBA (Exceeding 137Gb HDD size limit):

Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 or better or XP with Service Pack 1 or better

or

You must enable the support in the Windows registry:

Enable 48bit LBA support for ATAPI in W2K:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305098

Enable 48bit LBA for ATAPI in XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013

AND

Your mobo must support 48bit LBA (Large Block Addressing) - check the manufacturer's website for BIOS updates

OR

Install latest Motherboard Chipset Driver patch (in some cases - particularly Intel P4 mobos)

OR

Install an add-on 48bit LBA capable controller card.

In plain English - get your hands on an XP with SP1 integrated in it (or better yet, SP2) and THEN install it.

I hope it's okay to revive this older thread. It matches my problem exactly.

Okay:

All new parts.

Asus K8N-E mobo with AMD 3200+ 64 cpu
WD 10k 36 gb SATA -OS only-
WD 7200 160 SATA -data only-

We installed XP Pro to the Raptor drive. Then we installed SP2 from a cd-r.

The trouble is the system does not see the 160 gb drive as a 160 gb. 130 gb is how it's listed in My Computer.

Any ideas how to remedy this one?

I may have jumped the gun during the install. I finally got everything going last night and the hard drive is recognized as its full size.

I'm not sure why during the BIOS setup it was shown as the 130 gb size.

Thanks for the reply anyway!!
