Hard Drive won't boot?

Anyone have an idea of what I missed here?

I have Pentium 2 - 233MMX system
512RAM, Asus P2L97 Motherboard.

It had a 2.1 GB Maxtor HD with Windows 95 on it, but I have replaced it with a fujitsu 8.1 GB HD (from my Server System - so it works), and now the hard drive won't boot.

The system goes through POST, and looks like it is about to boot into windows startup, but nothing. No error. Just stalls with the Hardware CMOS List and a blinking cursor.

I can boot from the CD, and Windows 2000 can see the drive, format it, and copy the setup files for installation to it, but on reboot there is no booting from the hard drive?

Is there an issue with the hardware? That is my assumption, but what could it be.... GB limit for Hard Drive?

Thanks in advance

As Big Lar said there might be a BIOS support issue. It might be hard but can you get the latest BIOS for your mobo?

Can you run scandisk (or another resembling utility) that could scan for bad sectors and try to recover your Boot sector? This is a shot in the dark but the boot sector on your new hard drive might be corrupted, which is why your computer consistently won't boot.

If it would boot at all, that would be better, but it hasn't yet. If I take it out and throw it into my other system it boots fine.

?? Uggg!

Is your system overclocked? Have you tried taking the memory down to about 128MB since Win95 has caching problems with larger quantities of memory?

OK, it is not running Windows 95, it was on a smaller drive, the new drive I have in the system is 7GB Fugitsu. I have run through windows 2000 setup and it has gotten to the point of formating and copying setup files to the drive. But when I reboot it won't boot up from that drive.

And I have now tried to update the bios, and when I go to do it the Flash program states that there is an error flashing the bios since the flash memory version is unknown? Huh?

Any other thoughts. ??

The system is as is stated above, no overclocking , nothing special done to it.

Nope. I have to admit it must be the bios. Because I now swapped in a 2GB Drive and it booted just fine.

But since I can't seem to get past the Flash Memory Unknown error I can't seem to get past this GB barrier with the bios.

Thanks anyway folks

Make sure the jumper is properly placed on the 8GB drive.

Try resetting your CMOS settings.

Is your power supply running at it's max already?
