Hard Drive Will Not Format

I bought a Seagate 200GB retail kit. Put the drive in, BIOS recognized it...went to install windows...the drive will not format.

Put my old drive back in and booted up...formatted the new drive from windows...it freezes everytime.

It is set to "Cable Select" but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Anyone know if the drive is bad? I've checked the cables repeatedly.

Download the Seagate HD diagnostic tool if you didn't get it with the HD. You should be able to format from it, or I believe it will tell you if the drive is bad so you can RMA.

You should only have the drive on CS if there are two drives on the same cable. AND both drives are set to CS

Please reconsider changing the jumpers, then let us know.
