Hard Drive Testing

I am working on fixing a laptop for an uncle of mine. It would not hold windows. A few days after installing windows it would chrash. It came to me so i repartitioned the drive and installed windows again. It hasn't crashed yet but I need something to do a very through test on the harddrive. It is a 30 GB toshiba drive.

While you are running the test on the drive, it is a good idea to monitor the temperature of the drive. If it has SMART, you will be able to monitor it by something like the speedfan.

do you know the make of drive in the laptop. There are some sites on 'google' if you look for 'hard drive testing'.

The best way to test a hard drive for problems is to run a diagnostics program from the manufacturer of the drive. Usually these diagnostics allow you to create a boot floppy or burn a CD to boot from.

Yea, i noticed that after i posted it but i don't know how to take it back. I just posted it again in the general hardware catagorie but i didn't get as many responses
