Whats a respectable temp for a hd? Right now my seagate is at 32C with the case at 28C and ambient at 22C.

Even more amzing is my Maxtor, mbm is reporting it at 24C. Which is a bit hard for me to believe since the case is at 28-29C

I was not aware motherboards supported things like that. I can't wait for my new motherboard :D

speedfan tells me my 'cuda IV 40gb is at 21C. Perfectly normal temp... probably because its positioned right infront of a intake fan, even if said fan is at 1440 rpm. TBH im a tad surprised at the 35-45C temps others have :Q

mbm5 didnt seem able to tell me HDD temp, had to use speedfan, which is a lot easier to use imo (probably because it's lacking a lot of mbm's advanced features, which dont interest me anyway, but also it was better at getting sensors properly).

no idea what temps are normal... but too hot is not good.. i like to keep the drive not much over room temperature if possible... also helps to ensure longer life.

MBM is reporting my maxtor at 22c and my WD is showing 19c using a compunurse temp probe on the casing. Of course the drives have a 42 cfm fan in the drive cage with them. ;)

21C is not a normal HD temperature unless it's around 5C (40F) in your room or it has active cooling which yours does. A typical HD temperature without a fan on it would be around 40C (105F) or 20C above the ambient temperature when it is busy. ATA HD's are usually operating within spec up to around 60C (140F), so if you are 45C you are well within safe range and have nothing to worry about.

Cheers for that mate, i was a bit worried then.

I have no cooling in my case other than the cpu & psu fan. I REALLY need to get myself some fans dont i :(
