I was wondering what's the ideal temperature for a hard drive, as pretty much every other thread here is about CPU/Case/Video hardware.

My WD Caviars -WD800JD & WD1600JD- are idling at 34º and 31º respectively. Is that ok?

Not sure if it's OK or not, but mine have generally ranged from about 26 to 35, and I've never had a problem...

From WD's site about the WD800JD...

Temperature (Metric)
Operating (Metric) 5° C to 55° C
Non-operating (Metric) -40° C to 65° C

Same information is found on the other drive's page... It only took about 5 seconds to find the info on WD's site... Which you could have done just as easily. Next time, search the manufacturer's site before posting a question that can be so easily answered.

Your fine. The only time you need to worry about cooling HDD is if you are using SCSI. Other than that your drives will be fine.
