In order to have hard drive striping, do I need to have it set up on a Raid? Or is it posible with one hard drive?

You need two hard drives for striping. I believe that is where a block of data is written on one hard drive, then the next block is wrtten on the second hard drive. This allows for faster read access.

You can do stripping without a hardware raid card. Use windows 2k nt, and go into the hard drive manager.

Software RAID is slower, and more CPU intensive 🙁

Hardware RAID cards are much nicer 🙂!!!

You need two Hard Drives to run RAID 0, it would be nice if they were identical (Same make, size, speed). It'll give you really fast load times (like on a BF1942 map or something)

Adapted 1200A isn't too bad, I think they go for $50 or so. It's a 2 channel card with each channel having a primary and secondary. Remeber if you have two drives, set each up as primary on separate channels. Good luck!

The 1200A isn't a hardware RAID controller.
