I have a question. I have a 160gb drive here that I was backing up to another drive. When I right clicked the disk and went to properties it said there was 152 total and 100 free, and 50 or so used, so I cleared up 50 gigs on the other drive, but when I copied all the file in the drive over there was only 30gb. Why is there a 20 gig descripency(sp) between when I grab all the folders in the root, and when I get the properties from the drive?

updated:
Well I deleted every folder in the d drive, and it still shows 16gb is being used up, I search for * in hidden and system and it comes up with nothing. is it possible that something is taking this space up, that i can't find for some reason, or is it probably some odd fluke.

The 160GB is probably NTFS while the backup drive is FAT32. NTFS uses disk space more efficiently than FAT32 with large drives.

They're both ntfs.. and my main concern is that while on 1 pc, you can right click the drive and its properties say its 49gb, and than you grab all the folders and files in the root, and it says its 29gb

Did you unhide all system and hidden files? Is the file count between the 2 the same?

I can't get a file count by clicking on the drive(not sure if its possible, and I have view hidden and system files on, so it should copy them...right? I did search the drive for * and came up with 22000 and when I grab all the folders inthe root I get 12000, gonna look into it a little more..

If there's a 10,000 file descrepancy, that's where your problem lies. Just look at the 2 drives, it should be obvious where all those files are missing on the backup.

Figured it out there was a folder called recycler that didn't show up(even when it was set to view hidden and system, I had the disk reindex, and and it said it couldn't access d:\recycler\blah\blah, so i typed d:\recycler in explorer and than it showed me what was in the folder. THanks for the help:D

16GB in your recycling bin? Wow, that's a lot. Good to hear you figured it out.
