i am sick of having long load times in 1942 with my slow 2mb buffer 5400 rpm hard drive. in about a month i am thinking of purchasing a new hard drive or drives. see my sig for sytem details, under Main RIg. the questions i have are:
1. will i notice a Night/Day differance going to a 8mb buffer 7200 rpm hard drive
2. would there be a night/day differance between the 7200 rpm drive and a 10,000 rpm Raptor?
3. would there be a night/day differance going form 1 raptor to 2 raptors in stripping raid?
4. moneys not that big of a deal but if it is not worth it, i will reconsider.

thnx in advance

1. Yes because of the speed.
I would go for a drive with 8mb cache because the 2mb version isn't that much cheaper. The Hitachi 180GXP 120GB 8MB cache version.

1 The 8mb are a little zippier, if u know what i mean
2 I think so, Raptors don't have much storage, so if u don't need alot it's a good idea
3 I run two WD Raptors in RAID 0 and it absolutly ROCKS! Almost zero load time, its sweeeeet!!! :)
4 You get what you pay for:Q!

Would that really increase load times for BF1942 though? It seems like that game just takes a while to load each map.

1)imo, i'll say yes because of the difference in speed between 5400rpm and 7200rpm

BF1942 load times are very much related to memory. I saw a dramatic increase between 768MB and 1280MB of DDR-RAM.

I would imagine that the hard drive would also make quite a bit of difference.

I went from the 8MB WD HDD to a 15k Cheetah, and there is a good difference in load times for maps. Instead of being the one of the 6 people to a map, I am now the 1st person on every map, I have time to even choose a vehicle (or HELO for DC :p) of my choice before anyone else even gets there.

I don't recommend pure striping... It's too risky. But yeah, there's a considerable difference btween a 2mb 5400 and an 8meg 7200.
