Hard drive question

Im gona format a fairly old hard drive and use it for my amd 64 3500+ temporarily... Will it damage anything or is anything incompatible?
 
its a hd unless your board doesnt support ide and sata i think u are fine unless its a scsi drive than u would have a scsi pci card
 
ok and one more question I have an xp cd and it says "Compaq only systems" will this work with an athlon 64 and if not is there any way to make it work ?

If the CD says for compaq only, it most likely will not work. They have OEM software that won't install if it does not see a compaq BIOS..
